Apple sells a million iPads in 2 days!

What’s up with those iPad sales figures being collected by the Chitika network?  On Monday Apple announced that the iPad had sold 1 million in 28 days, but merely 2 days later the the feisty Chitika counter of sales is just shy of  2 million mark.  Previously the figures dropped by 800,000 on a weekend – this is the same methodology, presumably, they use to calculate the charges for their advertising network. Hmmm.

*UPDATE* Chitika have posted a note on the page saying that “iPad tracker is now closed”… except it doesn’t actually appear to be, its still ticking away. I guess I wasnt the only one bemused by the discrepancies between their figures and the Apple official. Not to say that either source is any more credible than the other. Chitika have to use a smoke and mirrors guesstimate methodology, because they are third party.  Apple have the real figures, but motivation to spin them, and 1m in 28 days does sound like a rather neatly rounded figure…

13 May figures (compare 5 May figures...)

* UPDATE UPDATE * Despite being officially “closed” the figure crept up towards the 2 mill mark, then on 13 May Apple apparently “unsold” 200,000 iPads… back down to 1 800 000. If Apple continue to un-sell iPads at this rate, they will be down to minus 1 million faster than they got up to plus 1 million, for which we will hold Android responsible.

Just let it die guys, its wrong!
